Scotch bonnet is a variety of chilli pepper named for its supposed resemblance to a Scottish tam o' shanter bonnet.

One of the hottest chilli peppers that are related to the habanero chilli Scotch bonnet produces bright orange pungent bonnet-shaped fruits. Use in a range of dishes and sauces.

Scoville Scale: 100,000 to 350,000 Heat Units

Grow notes:

Adaptable to most garden soils but prefers well-drained, well-fed soil in a sunny position. Annual in temperate climates and perennial in the tropics.

Capsicums require warmth for germination, if starting early provide warmth.

Temperate: Early Spring to Early Summer
Cold: Mid-Spring to Early Summer

Sow: 6mm deep.
Grow in trays of a good seed-raising mix and transplant when 6-7cm tall.
Germination: 10-14 days.
Plant space: 50cm
Row space: 50cm
Maturity: 10-12 weeks

Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for stronger plants.
