African Aloe, Spiny Aloe or Uitenhage Aloe

The African Aloe is a very attractive with strong architectural features that can grow to 2-3 metres (10 ft) in height.
The thick fleshy leaves are a green-blue in colour arranged in rosettes around the stem. Showy large tall flowers spike form high above the foliage carrying many brightly coloured orange-red flowers.
Flowering occurs in winter and spring but maybe be delayed in areas with colder conditions.
Preforms very well in coastal gardens as well as a pots or containers.
A flowering succulent that is is indignous to an area around Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage on the Eastern Cape of South Africa
Adaptable to most soils as long as it is well-draining.
Although seed can be sown most of the year in Australia seed is generally best sown in spring or autumn, avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year. The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 18-24°C
General note: Seeds of many plants are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination.
Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate, seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they were discarded.
