Introduced prior to 1885, this fine heirloom variety is still perhaps one of the standard cultivars. It has large white globular roots that are superb fried or in soup. Stores well for winter use.

Best quality is obtained if harvested when the roots are 8-10 cm in diameter.

Adaptable to most garden soils but prefers a humus rich soil in a sunny position. Avoid deformed roots by planting them in loose soil free from stones or rocks.
