A dwarf variety of Celosia produces compact plants with attractive flowers in a bright mix of colours over a long season. Ideal for the front of borders, garden beds, and mass planting. These dwarf plants are particularly well suited for growing in containers and small spaces.

Celosia is easy to grow from seed and adds a vibrant pop of colour to various settings such as beds, borders, and larger mass plantings.
They make an excellent cut flowers that are guaranteed to brighten up any floral vase display. Can also be used as dried flowers. To dry Celosia flowers, cut the stems and hang them upside down.
The leaves of this plant are edible and have a spinach-like taste while the plant is young but after flowering, the leaves turn bitter.

Adaptable to most well-drained garden soils in a sunny position, richer soils produce better blooms.

Celosia is a small genus of edible and ornamental plants in the amaranth family, Amaranthaceae.They are commonly known as woolflowers or if the flower heads are crested, cockscombs. They are also all great for attracting benificial inscts to the garden.

The main Celosia in cultivation:

Celosia argentea var. cristata: (Crested Celosia or Cockscomb): This variety is brightly coloured mainly in shades of red, yellow, orange and pink growing 30-90 cm tall.
Celosia argentea var. plumosa: (Feather Celosia or Plumed Celosia): This variety has flame-shaped or plume-like flowers that stand upright on the plant growing 20-60 cm tall.
Celosia argentea var. spicata: The flowers are usually pink, red, or purple growing 30-90 cm tall.

A warm season plant that is also well suited ideal to the tropical and subtropical areas.
Occurs naturally in Asia, Africa and the Americas.

A warm seed plant.
Celosia seed in best sown directly in the growing postion. 

  1. Best sown 2-3 mm directly where they are to grow.
  2. If sowing in trays transplant when large enough to handle.
  3. If mass planting as a meadow scatter seeds and rake over at a rate of 0.5g per m2

Tropical: August to April.
Temperate: August to December.
Cold: October to December.

Germination: 7-14 days @ 21-28°C

Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for stronger plants.
