A two metre plant can produce 1-2 kg (2-4 lb) of coffee a year. Hardy to minus 2 °;C.

Native to Ethiopia.

Prefers a rich deep soil in a protected partially shaded position, although it is adaptable to warm temperate areas it prefers tropical to subtropical climates. Hardy to minus 2°;C.

Although seed can be sown most of the year in many parts of Australia seed is generally best sown in spring or autumn, avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year. The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 20-24°;C for this species.

Seeds germinate readily after soaking in warm water overnight.

  1. Soak overnight in warm water.
  2. The swollen seed can then be sown, re-treat seeds that have not swollen.
  3. Sow the depth of seed size.
  4. Keep warm
